About Us - Who we are
The United Methodist Foundation of Western North Carolina, Inc. is a
a ministry of the Church and for the Church. Our mission is "to build the Church for generations to come" by investing in people, congregations and innovation. We fulfill this mission by enhancing our leadership development programs, broadening our ministries to congregations and encouraging conference and denominational collaboration and with other United Methodist Foundations.
The Following are some examples of how we’ve been able to live out our mission and purpose.
Loan program helps two congregations turn visions into reality
Nearly four years ago, Peachland UMC, a congregation in the Albemarle District, came to your Foundation seeking to secure a loan to build a new sanctuary. Today, ministries are growing, new Christians are being inspired and young people are being lead to Christ at Peachland UMC, all because of the faithful stewardship of many of our churches and individuals who have invested in the United Methodist Foundation’s Development Fund…..
Making dreams come true for new church start ups like Greater Vision UMC is also a dream come true for your United Methodist Foundation. As we work to fulfill our mission to “promote the sharing of God’s resources through faithful financial partnerships we get to share in the joy of new beginnings of churches across western North Carolina. Greater Vision UMC moved into it’s new sanctuary in June of 2008 after securing a loan from your UM Foundation. Since then, they have experienced growth and vitality and are making a tremendous difference in the Huntersville area. Just one year later, they were asked to lead the music for the closing worship service of the 2009 Annual Conference…..
Scholarship program encourages leadership
The UM Foundation’s scholarship program provides an opportunity for scholarship applicants to have the chance to share their story. Through our application process we are privileged to learn of their faith walk and the variety of ways God has inspired these applicants to follow their call into ministry. It is an awesome task to review each applicant and seek to provide financial support to these faithful servants. We look forward in the coming year of the inspiring stories of the next generation of leadership in our United Methodist Churches….
Fund Management program helps in funding ministries
Managing Funds for United Methodist Churches and Institutions is what we do. But the best part is the joy we receive in celebrating the use of those funds for ministries that serve the western North Carolina Conference. One such ministry is the Brotherhood Sisterhood, an organization that takes care of our clergy families in their time of grief when a clergy member of the Brotherhood Sisterhood passes away. Since 1996 over $1.8 million have been distributed in relief funds to over 200 families across western North Carolina. We celebrate our part in the stewardship of those funds that have made such a difference to so many families….
